Naperville, Ill. September 22th, 2021 - The North Central College women's soccer team continued their strong string of recent play against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night, in a double overtime thriller, ending with a strike from Sarah Andrey to give the Cardinals a win against a highly respected Oshkosh team.
Having only played Oshkosh once before, the women's soccer team knew little about their opponent, who came into the game holding a 7-1-0 record overall and had only given up two goals on the season up until that point.
No one had told Kily Egan about that news as she scored the games' first goal in the box of the Titan defense, as she received a crossing pass from teammate Olivia Hurt.
The Titan offense would answer back though with a goal of their own as they were able to sneak one past the Cardinal goalie to tie the game back up at one a piece.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half Sarah Andrey got in on the Cardinal scoring with a goal of her own to give the women's soccer team the two to one advantage heading into halftime.
In the 68th minute of play, the Oshkosh offense was able to tie the game back up at two with a goal by Piper Green off a penalty shot. The goal would send the game into overtime, with the first overtime not being enough to settle the outcome.
The Cardinal offense did not wait long into the second overtime to finish off the Titans and send them packing back to Wisconsin. Forward Kaitlyn Cannon dribbled down the far sideline towards the north goal and saw Egan wide open in the box, who gave a no-look pass to Andrey who booted it with her left foot into the top left part of the goal to give the Cardinals the win.
The Cardinals improved to (5-3-1) on the year and are back in action Saturday night as they take on Elmhurst University. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 pm CT.
