Sept. 5, 2021 - In their second match up of the 2021 season, the North Central men's soccer team downed the Marian University Sabres 5-0 on a sunny Sunday evening inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium to improve to 2-0 on the year.
The Cardinals opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute as Aidan Westerberg found the back of the net to give the Cardinals an early lead. Four shots later, Jaziel Enriquez netted his first career goal for the Cardinals in the 41st minute to put the Cardinals up by two. One minute later, Enriquez scored his second goal of the game extending the lead to three.
In the second-half, the Cardinals would strike again as Enriquez scored his third goal of the game finishing off a cross from Dane Richardson in the 65th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. Thirteen minutes later, Miles Kimball would finish off a Parker Thomas pass to put away the Sabres and secure the win for the Cardinals.
The defense showed their dominance again, only allowing two shots the whole game and keeping the ball on the Sabres half of the field. Sid Marquardt improved his record to 2-0-0 as the Cardinals goalkeeper and added another shutout to his career.
North Central is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 8 as they host the Concordia University (Wis.) Falcons. The match is set to start at 7:30 pm at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
