Jan. 21, 2022 - Using its superior depth to its advantage, the North Central College women's track and field team claimed first place in the Snow Day Invitational Friday at Al B. Carius Track.
The Cardinals won four of the 13 contested events and topped the six-team field with 153.1 points. Trine University (Indiana) placed second with 105.7 and Carthage College finished third with 71.7.
Julia Babinec accounted for two of North Central's first-place showings, prevailing in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.75 seconds before clocking a time of 26.24 to win the 200-meter dash. Kathy Myrda cleared a personal-best height of 12 feet even to win the pole vault while teammates Kiarah Horn and Natalie Johnson tied for second (10'6.25"), and Stephanie Garcia and Lindsey Novak finished first (8.14) and second (8.15), respectively, in the 60-meter dash.
Novak also finished second in the 400-meter dash (59.89), as did Alexandra Draves in the 20-pound weight throw (52'5.50"). Third-place points came from Hannah Jones in the 800-meter run (2:29.23), Jenna Fiore in the 3,000-meter run (11:15.16) and Katie Wagner in the 60-meter hurdles (9.60).
The Cardinals travel to Gately Indoor Track in Chicago Jan. 29 for the Aurora Grand Prix, hosted by Aurora University.
