Cardinals Ranked Second in Latest NWCA Poll

Jan. 27, 2022 - After claiming the 2022 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Dual Meet title on Saturday, the North Central College men's wrestling team was ranked second in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Tournament rankings and fourth in the Dual Team rankings this afternoon.

Wartburg College claimed the top spot once again with 56 points, the Cardinals came in at No. 2 with 45.5 points followed by Wabash College in third with 43 points, Augsburg University in fourth with 39.5 points and Baldwin Wallace University rounding out the top five with 37.5 points. 

Loras College (9-0) moved up one spot to claim the No. 1 ranking in the NWCA dual rankings this week. Coe College came in at No. 2 with a 7-4 record followed by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (6-2). The Cardinals came in at No. 4 with a record of 13-3 followed by Wabash College (7-1) in fifth. 

In the 133-pound weight class, Robert Precin was ranked No. 1 in both the Lower Midwest regional rankings and the national rankings. Precin has posted a 27-0 record this season with four pins, two technical falls, four major decisions and 16 decisions. Javen Estrada was ranked first in the regional rankings and fourth in the national rankings in the 141-pound weight class. Estrada has posted a 19-1 record this season with 16 pins, two major decisions and one decision. 

Alex Villar was ranked second in the regional rankings and sixth in the national rankings in the 149-pound weight class. Villar has a 25-4 record this season with six pins, six technical falls, three major decisions and ten decisions. Cole Cervantes was ranked second in the regional rankings and ninth in the national rankings in the 157-pound weight class. Cervantes has posted a 21-6 record this season with eight pins, 1 technical fall, ten decisions and one forfeit. 

In the 165-pound weight class, Payton Geigner was ranked fourth in the Lower Midwest regional rankings. Geigner has posted a 19-9 record this season with four pins, one technical fall, six major decisions, six decisions and a forfeit. Joseph Jens was ranked fourth in the regional rankings and 15th in the national rankings. Jens has posted a 22-5 record this season with four falls, one technical fall, three major decisions, 13 decisions and a forfeit. 

Cody Baldridge was ranked first in the regional rankings and second in the national rankings. Baldridge has posted a 22-3 record this season with two pins, four technical falls, five major decisions, and nine decisions. In the 285-pound weight class, Robby Bates was ranked fifth in the Lower Midwest regional rankings. Bates has posted a 20-7 record this season with five pins, two technical falls, one major decision and ten decisions. 

The second-ranked Cardinals are back in action this weekend as they travel to Wheaton, Ill. to compete in the Pete Willson Wheaton College Invitational.
