Cardinals Ranked Third, Nine Wrestlers Ranked

Jan. 27, 2022 - After finishing the dual meet season with 14-2 record, the North Central College women's wrestling team was ranked third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Dual Meet poll and fourth in the Tournament poll while having nine wrestlers ranked in their respective weight classes. 

King University was ranked first in the dual meet poll with a 7-0 record followed by McKendree University (5-1). The Cardinals moved up one spot in this month's rankings after posting a 14-2 record. Colorado Mesa University was ranked fourth after posting a 5-0 record, followed by Tiffin University (11-5) in fifth, Augsburg University (5-2) in sixth, Scheiner (4-2) in seventh, Lindenwood (7-4) in eighth, Adrian (5-5) in ninth and Gannon (2-0) rounding out the top ten. 

King University claimed the top spot in the tournament rankings with 118 points and 14 wrestlers individually ranked. Mckendree University was ranked second with 112 points and 14 wrestlers ranked followed by Simon Fraser in third with 60 pointsand seven wrestlers ranked, the Cardinals fell down to fourth in the rankings this month with 55 points and nine wrestlers ranked and Augsburg rounded out the top five with 43 points and four wrestlers ranked. 

In the 109-pound weight class, Sydney Petzinger was ranked fifth. Petzinger has posted a 20-6 record this season with three pins, nine technical falls, three decisions and five forfeits. Kendra Ryan was ranked sixth in the 116-pound weight class, she has posted a 17-8 record this season with five pins, ten technical falls, one decision and a forfeit. 

In the 123-pound weight class, Amani Jones was ranked fourth and Asia Nguyen-Smith was ranked sixth. Jones has posted a 25-4 record this season with eight pins, ten technical falls, five decisions and a forfeit. Nguyen-Smith has posted an 8-4 record this season with two pins, three technical falls and one forfeit. Niya Teresita Gaines was ranked sixth in the 130-pound weight class; she has posted a 15-4 record this season with nine pins, four technical falls and two decision wins. 

Sara Sulejmani was ranked fourth in the 136-pound weight class after posting a 17-7 record this season with seven pins, three technical falls, and four decision wins. In the 155-pound weight class, Tiera Jimerson was ranked sixth after posting a 9-4 record this season with six pins, one decision and two forfeits. In the 170-pound weight class, Yelena Makoyed was ranked second and Fiona McConnell was ranked eighth. Makoyed has posted a 15-1 record this season with four pins, seven technical falls, one decision and three forfeits. McConnell has posted a 15-6 record this season with six pins, four technical falls, two decisions and three forfeits. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Grand View University Open.
