CHICAGO/NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Jan 29, 2022) - Kicking off their 2022 season, the North Central College men's tennis team fell to the hands of No. 11 University of Chicago, 7-2, before taking down the University of St. Francis, 9-0 on Saturday.

Against Chicago, Andy Hinch and Colten Way notched the Cardinals' lone win in doubles play, 8-7. At the No. 1 position in singles play, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez earned a 6-4, 7-6 win over Andrei Leonov to capture North Central's second victory of the day.

After making the trek back to Naperville, the Cardinals came out firing against St. Francis by sweeping doubles play. Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez won 8-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot while the teams of Hinch/Way and Morgan Red/Javier Suarez Balsera won their respective matches.

Vilarroig and Suarez each came away with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions while Way and Matthew Sengphommachanh each won 6-3, 6-1. To secure the 9-0 sweep, Steven Mears and Daniel Urraca Mozos both won 6-0, 6-0 to earn the 9-0 win.

North Central travels to Madison, Wis. next weekend to take on two ranked opponents in No. 39 UW-Eau Claire and No. 40 Luther College on Saturday.
