Jan. 31, 2022 - The North Central College men's cross country program has proved its commitment to both athletics and academics as the program and six of its student-athletes found themselves on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic lists announced on Thursday.
The Cardinals were honored with the All-Academic Team award for the ninth consecutive year after posting a 3.417 cumulative team grade point average (GPA). North Central joins 136 Division III programs recognized for the award.
In order to be eligible for the All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of a minimum of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale including the latest grading period.
In addition to the team award, six Cardinals earned the individual All-Academic distinctions out of 248 student-athletes across 91 different institutions. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Gabe Pommier achieved All-Academic honors while also leading the Cardinals in the 2021 season earning All-American honors at the National Championship finishing 15th overall with a personal best time of 24 minutes and 6.2 seconds. Matt Boelke earned All-Academic and All-Region honors finishing ninth at the regional championships with a season's best time of 24 minutes and 42.1 seconds. Also earning All-Academic honors this season were Andrew Guimond,
Julian Higueros,
Connor Riss, and
Max Svienty.
Svienty was also recognized this season for the Elite 25 award that honors the All-Conference recipient with the highest GPA.
North Central makes up six of nine CCIW representatives on the All-Academic list.
