Oct. 5, 2022 - After taking a week-long hiatus, the North Central College women's soccer team drew an even 0-0 tie against the Wheaton College Thunder inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium Wednesday night.

The Cardinals (8-1-2, 1-0-1 CCIW) looked to pick up their second win in program history over College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe, Wheaton College. The Cardinals hoped to find success early as Kaitlyn Cannon found an opening in the Thunder's defense but her shot went wide, eliminating the Cardinals scoring attempt. In the 8th minute, Wheaton's Tori Seeland slipped past the Cardinal defense and sent a strike on net but her shot was swallowed up by Jordan Boyd, keeping the game tied at zero. Wheaton kept the pressure on the Cardinals as they sent two shots on net in the 25th and 28th minute but both shots were handled by Boyd. In the 30th minute, Sophia Hein sent a strike to the bottom right corner but her shot was saved by Lauren Ketchum, keeping the game notched at zero. Both offenses would stall and both teams would head into the half deadlocked at zero.

Wheaton came out of the half firing as their offense attempted multiple shots but all four were blocked by Cardinal defenders. In the 55th minute, Elle Sutter found a hole in the Thunder's defense but her shot was saved by Ketchum. Just two minutes later, Cannon sent another shot on net to the bottom right corner but Ketchum was there to eliminate the scoring opportunity. Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the 2nd half and in the 81st minute, Cannon looked to put the Cardinals on top but her shot to the bottom left corner was handled by Ketchum, ending the game in a 0-0 tie.

North Central outshot Wheaton 17-13 but both offenses each had four shots on goal. Boyd tallied four saves in the contest as her record stands at 8-1-2 on the season.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday as they take a trip to Kenosha, Wis. to take on the Firebirds of Carthage College. The action is set to start at 5 pm inside Art Keller Field.
