ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2022) - Locking up at least a share of their third straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season title, the North Central College women's tennis team secured their ninth 9-0 victory of the fall season as they beat Augustana to improve to 12-0 (7-0 CCIW) this season. This marks their 23rd consecutive CCIW win dating back to 2021.

Notching the first win of the day for the Cardinals, Nina Patience and Mikayla Edquiban won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles before Abigail Penados and Kensington Payne locked up an 8-1 victory at No. 2. Completing the doubles sweep was Kaeli Smashey and Natalie Bassett who won a hard-fought match at No. 1 over Hannah Colbert and Lily Schoeck, 8-6.

In singles play, No. 1 Smashey registered a 6-4, 6-2 win while Penados tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot to move to 7-0 in CCIW action. In the No. 3 position, Bassett posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory with Payne winning 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot. Finishing off the sweep was Kayla McSweeney with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

Looking to earn the 2022 CCIW Regular Season Title outright, the Cardinals host Wheaton College on Oct. 15th as North Central has won the last four matches against the two schools.
