Cardinals Stay Hot at Pointer Open

Stevens Point, Wis. (Nov. 5th, 2022) - Traveling to the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point to kick off the first tournament of the season, the North Central College men's wrestling team totaled 12 total place winners with four of them being first-place and two of them being second-place at the Pointer Open on Saturday.

Sophomore Cole Cervantes took home second-place at the Pointer Open in the 165-pound class. Cervantes won by fall in the quarterfinals, won by sudden victory in the semifinals, before falling in the championship. Bradley Rosen also placed second at the pointer open in the 141-pound weight class. Rosen won by major decision in the quarterfinals (13-4), won by medical forfeit in the semifinals, and fell in the championships by decision (1-3).

In his first action this year, senior Robbie Precin took home first-place in the 133-pound weight class. Precin had 3 wins by decision and 2 wins by fall at the Pointer Open. Sophomore, Alex Villar finished first in the 157-pound weight class. Villar pinned his first two opponents, won his next three matches by decision including the semifinals then won in the finals by major decision. 

Junior Julian Valtierrez finished first at 125-pound weight class. On his way to first place Valtierrez had three matches end by decision, one by tech. Fall, and one by major decision. Joey Jens was the last Cardinal to finish in first place at 174-weight class. Jens received a first round bye and then won by decision in his next 4 matches to take home the first place trophy.

The men's wrestling program is back on the mats as they host Wheaton College to face off against the Thunder on November 10th at 7pm in the Gregory Arena.
