NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 19, 2022) - Hosting the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the Milwaukee School of Engineering, the North Central College men's tennis team cruised to two wins, extending their winning streak to seven matches in a row.
The Cardinals swept doubles play against the Fightin' Engineers to take a 3-0 advantage into singles action. Morgan Red secured the first singles victory for North Central, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot. In the No. 2 position, Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez won 6-2, 6-3 before Andy Hinch won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 position. Matthew Sengphommachanh, Javier Suarez Balsera, and Colten Way locked down their opponents to win their singles matches and give the Cardinals a 9-0 win.
The tandem of Way and Hinch won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to kick off the match against MSOE. Gonzalez Fernandez/Suarez Balsera took care of business at the No. 2 position while Red/Daniel Urraca Mozos won 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles spot to again sweep doubles play.
Finishing first in singles play, Sengphommachanh won 6-0, 6-2 before Gonzalez Fernandez and Suarez Balsera each won their respective matches to clinch the win over the Raiders.
North Central visits the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday afternoon at Lake Geneva Tennis Club.
