COLUMBUS, Ohio (Mar. 14, 2022) - Playing in their first game of Spring Break, the North Central College men's lacrosse team dropped their third consecutive game as they fell to the Capital University Comets 12-10 inside Bernlohr Stadium this afternoon.
The Comets (2-4, 0-0 OAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 just 15 seconds into the game, they would tally two more goals early in the first quarter putting themselves up 3-0. However, the Cardinals (1-3, 0-0 CCIW) would rally back and score four unanswered as Tom Eberhardt tallied two goals off an assist from Luke Illgen to take the lead 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was dominated by the Comets as they scored five unanswered goals heading into halftime with an 8-4 lead.
The Cardinals would open up the scoring first in the second half as Jack Moran tallied a goal just two minutes into the quarter cutting the lead to three. The Comets would bring the lead back to four with 12 minutes to play in the third but the Cardinals would go on a three goal run started by Scott Allgood to cut the lead to one heading into the final quarter of play. The Comets once again would tally another goal in the start of the fourth quarter before Moran tallied two more goals to tie the game up at ten with under nine minutes remaining. The Comets would tally two more goals which would be the deciding factor in the Cardinals 12-10 loss.
Moran led the team with four goals while Eberhardt scored three goals and Nick Rubino, Rylan McQueary and Scott Allgood each had one goal. Steven Dale led the defense with three caused turnovers and two ground balls while Jake Allgood tallied 11 saves as he fell to 1-3 on the season. Dylan Andersen went 11-18 on face-offs with ten ground balls.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday Mar. 16 as they travel to Bridgewater, VA to take on Bridgewater College in the last game of their spring break trip. The opening face-off is set for 3 pm (4 pm EST) inside the Jopson Athletic Complex.
