BRIDGEWATER, VA. (Mar. 16, 2022) - Finishing up their spring break with a trip to Bridgewater, Va. to take on the Eagles of Bridgewater University, the North Central College men's lacrosse team dropped their fourth consecutive game as they fell 12-9 on a cloudy afternoon inside Jopson Athletic Complex.
The Cardinals (1-4, 0-0 CCIW) opened up the scoring as Scott Allgood tallied his sixth goal of the season just 35 seconds into the contest. The Eagles (6-2) would go on to score two unanswered goals to go up 2-1. Jack Moran would tie the score up with 29 seconds left, ending the quarter with a 2-2 score. The Eagles would open up the second quarter with a two goal run before Joey D'Cuhna would start a three goal stretch for the Cardinals putting them up 5-4 with 4 minutes left in the half. Tom Eberhardt would put the Cardinals in front 6-5 with 2 minutes left but the Eagles would score shortly after bringing the score to 6-6 heading into the half.
The Eagles would come out hot in the second half as Hunter Becker put the Eagles on top 7-6 with 13 minutes to go in the third. Moran would tally his second goal of the game with 12 minutes left, tying the game at seven. The Eagles would score two unanswered goals to extend their lead to two before Tom Eberhardt cut the lead to one off an assist from Moran while the Cardinals were up a man. The Cardinals would head into the final quarter of play down 9-8. Luke Illgen would get the Cardinals back on the board as he scored with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter but the Eagles would go on a three goal run to secure the 12-9 win over the Cardinals.
Moran led the team for the second straight with three goals while Eberhardt and Allgood each had two goals. Jake Allgood tallied 14 saves as he fell to 1-4 on the season.
The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 22 as they host the University of Dubuque Spartans for their first home game since Mar. 5. The opening face-off is set to start at 6 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
