CLERMONT, Fla. (Mar. 14, 2022) - The North Central College softball team dropped both games on Day Three of their spring break trip falling to New York University 1-2 and Concordia University-Wisconsin (CUW) 3-4.

In its first game against NYU (3-3), North Central (3-2) gained an early lead as Sarah Lynch hit a single and stole second to eventually score on Andrea Richards's RBI ground ball to third. The Cardinals held off NYU until the seventh inning when the Violets hit four consecutive singles to move Lauren Kong and Sarah Merhle home to take the win 2-1.

Gianna Corban pitched for four innings tallying five strikeouts and allowing a single hit. Breanna Adams came in for the last three innings totaling two strikeouts and allowing five hits.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start in game two against the Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons (10-1) as Katie Del Re and Sarah Lynch both singled to have two runners on to start off inning one. With two outs, Jaime Smith hit a home run to left field for three RBIs putting North Central up 3-0 heading into the second inning.

With bases loaded and no outs, Gabbi Gaziano reached on a fielder's choice and got an RBI in Jess Pozezinski but North Central held the Falcons to one run as Adams and Smith connected to tag Claudia Utz out at home. The Cardinals held CUW to one run until the sixth inning. With two on and two outs, Kristen Fontana hit a single to second to score Pozezinski narrowing the score to 2-3.

At the bottom of the seventh, the Falcons hit two consecutive singles to get runners on first and second, shaking the Cardinals. Kelsey Bollon reached on an error advancing runners to third and home. With the score now tied at 3-3, Adams had an unfortunate wild pitch on ball four to not only advance runners but allowed a Falcon baserunner to come home to secure the win 4-3. Adams pitched six innings and allowed 10 hits.

The Cardinals have a day to regroup before returning to action on Wednesday with games against Western New England University at 11:30 a.m. (ET) and Beloit College at 3 p.m. (ET) in Leesburg, Fla.
