Men’s Tennis Finishes Florida Trip with Two Wins

ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 16, 2022) - Wrapping up their four-match spring break trip to Orlando, the North Central College men's tennis team swept Millsaps College 9-0 before taking down the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 9-0 on Wednesday.

Singles action took place first in both matches as Ramon Vilarroig Martinez, Colten Way, Matthew Sengphommachanh, and Morgan Red each won their singles matches before Javier Suarez Balsera clinched the win for the Cardinals, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez completed the perfect singles sweep with his 6-3, 6-4 win.

The No. 1 doubles team of Vilarroig Martinez and Gonzalez Fernadez earned a hard-fought 8-6 win over Millsaps' No. 1 duo. Andy Hinch and Way won 8-5 while Suarez Balsera and Red rolled to an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. 

Picking up where they left off in the morning, Hinch, Red, and Suarez Balsera all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins. Sengphommachanh earned a 6-1, 6-0 win to allow Way to clinch the win with his 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot. Vilarroig Martinez also won his match, 6-3, 6-1 to finish singles play 6-0.

North Central capped the contest off with three straight doubles victories to win the match, 9-0, and improve to 12-2 on the young season.

The Cardinals host Concordia University-Wisconsin on March 26th at Naperville Tennis Club. The contest is set to begin at 1 PM.
