WILMORE, Ky. (Mar. 18, 2022) - Capping off their 2022 spring break trip, the North Central College women's lacrosse team tallied a season high 18 goals in route to an 18-8 win over the Asbury University Eagles this afternoon inside the AU Lacrosse Field.Â
The Eagles (0-6) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Molly Jane ader tallied two quick goals in the first quarter. Tanya Czosek would get the Cardinals (2-4, 0-0 CCIW)Â offense moving as she started a four goal stretch to put the Cardinals up by two heading into the second quarter. The second quarter would start how the first quarter would end, Berit Vandenbroucke would tally her second goal of the game as the Cardinals extended their lead to three. Abby MacKenzie and Julia Clarke would tally two more quick goals to put the Cardinals up 7-2 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the half. After a quick goal by the Eagles, Vandenbroucke would tally her third goal of the game putting the Cardinals out infront 8-3. Reese McMullen would start a three goal run with 8 minutes left in the second quarter, the Cardinals would head into half time with a commanding 11-4 lead.Â
Just like the first half, the Eagles would tally two quick goals to cut the lead to five but the high powered Cardinal offense would go on and score six unanswered goals putting them up by 11 heading into the final quarter of play. The Eagles would score two goals in the fourth but Raygn Jordan would finish the game with a goal, giving the Cardinals the 18-8 win.Â
MacKenzie led the team with four goals while VandenBroucke had three goals. Ellie Yonak, Clarke, Czosek, McMullen and Lucy Culig each tallied two goals and Jordan had one. Clarke led the team with one caused turnover and 2 ground balls. Goalkeeper Abigail Widd tallied 11 saves as she improved her record to 2-4 this season.Â
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 23 as they host the Albion College Britons in a non-conference match inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium at 7 pm.Â
