KENOSHA, Wis, (Mar. 2, 2022) - In a highly-anticipated match-up, the North Central College men's volleyball team fell to Carthage College 3-1 on Wednesday evening inside Tarble Arena.

The Cardinals struggled to find their footing in set one, managing to keep the score within two points before Carthage pulled away with a four-point lead spearheaded by a pair of service aces by Matt Slivinski to make the score 11-16. Despite Jared Moser leading the Cardinals with six kills in set one, Carthage led the way with a 25-17 set win.

Looking to bounce back in set two, the Cardinals went on a six-point scoring run that saw a pair of kills by Jake Miller, a service ace by Moser, and a trio of errors by the Firebirds to bring the score within one, 22-23. The Cardinals traded points with the Firebirds but fell short in set two, 23-25.

In a set that saw 15 tied scores, North Central found its momentum to rally for a 24-19 lead in set three. Not willing to give up the set easily, Carthage answered with a five-point run to tie the score at 24. A service error and a bad set by the Firebirds pushed the Cardinals to a set three win, 27-25.

Kills by Miller, Nathan Jones, and Parker Nelson put the Cardinals in the lead to start set four. The Cardinals maintained their lead until the Firebirds came back to tie it up at 16-16 before going on a four-point run to take the lead 20-17. North Central battled to the end but ultimately fell to the Firebirds 22-25.

Moser led the Cardinals with 18 kills, the third-highest 4-set match kills record in program history, matching his previous record from 2020. Moser also led with four service aces. Jeremy Cardenas had 13 kills on the evening. Matt Nealon led with 41 assists while Nelson led defensively with 11 digs.

Slivinski led the Firebirds with 19 kills followed by Zach Bulthuis with 12. Gene McNulty led in assists with 56 while Kyle Cohan led with 25 digs.

North Central hosts their next match against the 15-1 Loras College Duhawks on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gregory Arena.
