Men’s Lacrosse Dethrones Knights, 9-5

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Mar. 26, 2022) - Coming off an 11-5 win over the University of  Dubuque Spartans, the North Central College men's lacrosse team took down the Calvin University Knights 9-5 this afternoon inside Zuidema Field. 

The Cardinals (3-4,0-0 CCIW) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Tom Eberhardt netted the first goal of the game off an assist from Scott Allgood to put the Cardinals up by one just 40 seconds into the game. Eberhardt would tally another goal with four minutes left in the first quarter before Jack Moran would net his first goal of the game with a minute left giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead heading into the second. The Knights (6-2, 0-0 MIAA) scored two unanswered goals before Allgood would score, putting the Cardinals up by two heading into the half. 

Eberhardt would score his third goal of the game in the opening 40 seconds of the half off an assist from Luke Illgen but the Knights would cut the lead to one after two quick goals. Eberhardt scored his fourth and fifth goal late in the third quarter off assists from Allgood and Jake Paris before Nick Rubino would tally another goal for the Cardinals putting them up by four with 12 minutes left to play. After a Knights goal with seven minutes left, Joey D'Cuhna would tally the final goal of the game giving the Cardinals a 9-5 win over the Knights. 

Eberhardt led the Cardinals with five goals while Rubino, D'Cuhna, Moran and Allgood each had one goal each. Allgood led the Cardinals with three assists and four points. Trenton Herubin led the Cardinal defense with two caused turnovers and five ground balls while Jake Allgood tallied eight saves to improve his record to 3-4 on the season. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 20 as they take a short trip to Aurora University to take on the Spartans at 4 pm inside Spartan Athletic Park.
