LA CROSSE, Wis. (Mar. 27, 2022) - Playing in their second game in two days in Wisconsin, the North Central College women's lacrosse team dropped their third consecutive game as they fell to the UW-La Crosse Eagles 11-10 in overtime this afternoon inside Veterans Memorial Stadium.Â
The Eagles (3-2) came out ready to attack as they scored the first two goals of the game before Berit Vandenbroucke got the Cardinals (2-7, 0-0 CCIW) on the board as she scored with nine minutes remaining in the first quarter. Vandenbroucke would tally her second goal of the game late in the quarter, cutting the Eagles lead to one. After an Eagles goal to end the first, the Cardinals went on a four goal stretch started by Raygn Jordan to put the Cardinals up 6-4 with just under nine minutes remaining in the half. The Eagles would go on a run of their own as they scored three goals to put them on top 7-6 heading into the second half.Â
The Cardinals came out firing on the offensive side of the ball in the second half as Vandenbroucke tallied her fourth goal of the game which ignited another four goal run to put the Cardinals on top 10-7 with 13 minutes remaining in the game. However, the Eagles would notch things up at ten after a three goal run, forcing overtime. Overtime was at a standstill until Megan Feeney would score with 24 seconds remaining giving the Eagles the 11-10 win.Â
Vandenbroucke led the Cardinals with five goals and five points while Tayna Czosek scored two goals. Reese McMullen, Lucy Culig and Jordan each tallied one goal in the contest. Tori Leonard led the Cardinals with two caused turnovers and three ground balls while Abigail Widd tallied 19 saves as she fell to 2-7 on the season.Â
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Apr. 2 as they host the Calvin University Knights at 1 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
