Women’s Tennis Downed by WashU, 8-1

St. Louis, Mo. (Mar. 5, 2022) -  Returning to action today, the North Central College women's tennis team collided with a top-tier team in # 17 Washington University in St. Louis and fell 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears opened doubles play with two 8-0 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Kaeli Smashey and Natalie Bassett battled but ultimately fell 8-5 to Kat Johnson and Anke Patel in No. 2 doubles.

Securing the lone Cardinal win on the day was Sydney Sawyer who earned a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 win in the No. 6 spot. Alaina Kanthaphixay kept her match close at No. 4 singles but fell in a tightly contested battle, 5-7, 4-6.

North Central heads to Florida for spring break as they open the trip against #34 Bethel University at 3 PM (ET).
