NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 13, 2022) - Taking sole possession of first place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the North Central College men's tennis team earned a convincing 6-3 win over Carthage College on Friday afternoon, establishing a new program record for wins in a season with 19.
The Cardinals' No. 3 duo Morgan Red and Javier Suarez Balsera kicked off the scoring with an 8-4 win before Andy Hinch and Colten Way locked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Securing the sweep in doubles play, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez worked their way to an 8-6 win in the No. 1 spot as they faced the No. 11 ranked doubles team in the Central Region in Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amadike.
Matthew Sengphommachanh began singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 before Way clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4. Vilarroig Martinez also took down Daniel Moore in the No. 1 position 7-6, 7-6, giving the Cardinals their 12th straight win while improving to 5-0 in CCIW play.
North Central is set to travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon to continue CCIW play. The match with the Thunder is set for 4 PM at the Wheaton Tennis Courts.
