Apr. 15, 2022 - The North Central College softball team improved their record to 14-5 today as they took down the Blue Angels from Mount Mary University 2-0 on a cold and windy afternoon inside Shanower Family Field.Â
Breanna Adams started the game for the Cardinals and recorded three straight outs to open the game and in the second inning, she would find herself with the bases loaded but managed to get out of the jam to keep the game all tied up at zero. Gianna Corban came in relief in the third inning for the Cardinals and after giving up an early single, she struck out three straight batters to end the inning.Â
The game remained scoreless until Talia Torosian sent a drive into right field, notching her first home run of the season giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Corban would keep the Blue Angels offense in check as she tallied two more strikeouts in the sixth inning, keeping the Cardinals 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Sarah Lynch would lead off the inning with a double but would advance to third base off an error, giving the Cardinals an opportunity to score late in the game. Alyssa Sturino singled to left center field with two outs, giving the Cardinals a two run lead heading into the final inning of play. Corban would close out the game with two strikeouts and a lineout, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 win. Game two of their doubleheader was canceled due to inclement weather.Â
Corban was credited with the win as she pitched five innings with 11 strikeouts and only allowed one hit. The Cardinals tallied five hits in the contest while the Blue Angels had three total hits. The Cardinals are back in action as they host Lake Forest College in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 19. Game one is set to start at 3 pm followed by game two at 5 pm inside Shanower Family Field.Â
