Apr. 19, 2022 - The North Central College softball team secured a pair of wins Tuesday afternoon as they took down Lake Forest College in a doubleheader at Shanower Family Field, finishing game one 2-0 and game two 4-3.

Game one saw Gianna Corban in the pitching circle and while she walked the first batter, catcher Jaime Smith was ready to make up for it by catching the Foresters' Elena Chrisman stealing second to get the Cardinals moving. Corban struck out six batters in the first three innings, allowing plenty of time for the Cardinals to get their bats moving in the third inning. Sarah Lynch hit a double to left-center in time for Smith's home run to left field to score the Cardinals two runs of game one.

Corban pitched all seven innings of game one, striking out 10 batters and allowing only one hit moving her win-loss record to 10-1 on the season.

In the bottom of the second in game two, Smith led off with a double to center field followed by an RBI-double from Alyssa Sturino. Andrea Richards' sacrifice fly to left field produced a scoring opportunity in Sturino to put the Cardinals up 2-0.

Lake Forest found their opportunity to tie the game at two-all as Chrisman hit a double with two runners on for a single RBI, just before Josie Klein reached on a fielder's choice that scored Caeli Kinsella from third.

North Central regained the lead in the third inning as Katie Del Re tripled to right field before her extended lead-off triggered a throwing error by the Foresters' catcher to put the score at 3-2. In the fifth inning, the Cardinals found their final run of the day. With two runners on, Del Re grounded out to the shortstop for an RBI in pinch runner, Madeline Olson.

The Foresters made their final push for the lead in the seventh inning. With two outs and one runner on, Hailey Boylan hit an RBI single to bring the score to 3-4 but that did little against Cardinals' pitcher Breanna Adams who struck out the next batter to secure the game two win.

Del Re, Sturino, and Richards led the Cardinals with one RBI each, while Sturino and Smith each led with two hits in game two. Adams extended her win-loss record to 6-3 today as she pitched all seven innings of game two recording four strikeouts and allowing eight hits.

The Cardinals will host Benedictine University on Wednesday, Apr. 20 for a non-conference make-up doubleheader. Game one at Shanower Family Field is set for 3 p.m.
