NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 9, 2022) - In their final regular-season match of the season, the North Central College women's tennis team fell to No. 33 the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-3 on Saturday at Naperville Tennis Club.
The duo of Kaeli Smashey and Natalie Bassett won their eighth straight match of the season with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Mikayla Edquiban and Sydney Sawyer secured an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles for their seventh straight win as a duo.
Holding a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, the Warhawks won five of the six matches as Sawyer cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Molly Rueth at No. 6 singles. Edquiban and Bassett each forced their match to three sets but came up short.
The Cardinals compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Automatic Qualifier Tournament on April 29th. They are set to face Augustana College at 10 AM at the Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
