BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 2, 2022) - Continuing their weekend trip to central Illinois, the North Central College men's tennis team added another College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win by sweeping Illinois Wesleyan University, 9-0 before beating Principia College, 8-1 at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
The doubles tandem of Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez kicked off the match vs the Titans with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles while Andy Hinch and Colten Way won 8-4 at second doubles. To complete the doubles sweep, Javier Suarez Balsera and Morgan Red earned a convincing 8-0 victory.
Moving to singles action, all six Cardinals won in straight sets to secure the 9-0 win as Way's 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles clinched the win.
In their second match of the day, Vilarroig Martinez/Gonzalez Fernandez beat Daniel Gomez and Juan Segovia, 8-4. The duos of Way/Hinch and Suarez Balsera/Red also captured wins in doubles play to give North Central a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Suarez Balsera, Matthew Sengphommachanh, and Hinch all won 6-1, 6-0 over their Principia opponents. Gonzalez Fernandez earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Red cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fifth singles. With today's victories, Hinch recorded his 100th career win.
The Cardinals return to CCIW action on Friday as they host Elmhurst at 3 PM. North Central has won the last six matchups against the Bluejays.
