NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 8, 2022) - Winning their 10th straight match, the North Central College men's tennis team rolled through Elmhurst University with a 9-0 win on Friday afternoon, improving to 3-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.
The No. 6 ranked duo in the region, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez earned an 8-2 win after Javier Suarez Balsera and Morgan Red won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Andy Hinch and Colten Way cruised to an 8-2 win as well to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
Red secured the first singles win for North Central with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Russell Reyes at No. 5. Vilarroig Martinez and Suarez Balsera each earned wins to clinch the victory for the Cardinals. Matthew Sengphommachanh won a hard-fought 1-6, 6-2, 12-10 comeback victory over Brandon Fulmer at No. 4. To secure the 9-0 sweep, both Hinch and Way beat their respective Bluejay opponents on the way to North Central's 17th victory of the season.
The Cardinals continue CCIW play on Sunday at 10 AM as they take on Augustana College at the Benet Academy Tennis Courts, trying to avenge their loss to the Vikings in the 2021 CCIW Championship.
