Men’s Tennis Rolls to a 5-0 Sweep of Yellowjackets

CHICAGO (May 12, 2022) - Playing in their first-ever NCAA Tournament, the North Central College men's tennis team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior 5-0 to advance to the second round of action.

Javier Suarez Balsera and Morgan Red took the first victory of the match with an 8-0 win at No. 3. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez earned an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot while Colten Way and Andy Hinch also won 8-3 in the No. 2 spot to take a 3-0 lead into singles action.

The No. 6 position was the first match over with in singles play as Red cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win. Vilarroig Martinez took control of his match with a 6-0 win in the first set followed by a 6-2 win to clinch the match for North Central. Suarez Balsera, Gonzalez Fernandez, Way, and Matthew Sengphommachanh all won their first set before the match was concluded.

The Cardinals will take on Gustavus Adolphus College at 1:30 PM tomorrow on the campus of the University of Chicago at Stagg Tennis Courts.
