TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Sept. 10, 2022) - Despite outshooting their opponents 11-6, the North Central College men's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fighting Engineers on Saturday after the game was shortened by thunderstorms in the 77th minute.

The Cardinals (3-0-2) headed into Saturday's contest off a 1-1 tie against Concordia University-Wisconsin (CUW) on Wednesday and were looking to get back into the win column. The Cardinals had an opportunity to take an early lead as Lukas Munchausen put a shot on net but it was handled by John Biederstedt. The Cardinals defense would be pressured early by the Fighting Engineers (2-0-1) as Tyler Eldridge sent a shot on net but was handled by goalkeeper Riley Johnson. The Cardinal offense was shut down by the Fighting Engineers defense, sending both teams into the break deadlocked at zero.

The Cardinal offense found some opportunities in the second half as Jaziel Enriquez found himself open on two separate occasions but both of his shots went wide of the net. In the 60th minute, Eloi Nyibizi found an opening in the Engineers defense but his shot was swallowed up by Biederstedt, eliminating the Cardinals opportunity. In the 69th minute, the Engineer's defense seemed to shut down a Cardinal scoring opportunity but their clearing attempt was unsuccesful and Daniel Navarro flicked one past Biederstedt giving the Cardinals a one goal lead. The Engineers would tie the game at one after AJ Uilmaz scored off an assist from Caleb Urban before thunderstorms rolled into the area, shortening the game in the 77th minute.

Johnson tallied one save in his first career start as a Cardinal as his record stands at 0-0-1. The Cardinals are back in action as they host the Lake Forest College Foresters on Wednesday. The action is set to start at 7:30 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
