DECATUR, Ill. (Sept. 16, 2022) - Winning their 19th straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match, the North Central College women's tennis team won five singles matches on their way to a 7-2 victory over Millikin University on Friday afternoon at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
The freshmen tandem of Abigail Penados and Kensington Payne improved to 7-0 as a duo while picking up the first win of the day for the Cardinals, 8-1. The Big Blue tied the contest with a win at No. 1 doubles before Mikayla Edquiban and Nina Patience gave North Central a 2-1 advantage following doubles play with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
Payne cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Taylor Milholland in No. 5 singles, scoring the first singles points for North Central. Following Natalie Bassett's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, Penados clinched the match with her 6-0, 6-3 victory. Patience and Kaeli Smashey also posted wins at their respective positions.
The Cardinals have the weekend off before heading north to face Carthage College on Tuesday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
