Cardinals Win 17th Straight CCIW Match in Triangular

WAUKESHA, Wis. (Sept. 3, 2022) - Playing in their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match of the young season, the North Central College women's tennis team extended their conference winning streak to 17 by taking down Carroll University 9-0 before cruising past Concordia University Wisconsin 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kaeli Smashey and Natalie Bassett earned an 8-4 win while Abigail Penados and Kensington Payne cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Finishing off the doubles sweep was the duo of Mikayla Edquiban and Nina Patience with an 8-2 victory.

In singles play, Penados rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win before Payne clinched the match with her 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 5 spot. Bassett, Edquiban, and Patience all won in straight sets with Smashey earning a hard-fought win at the No. 1 position.

North Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play as Smashey/Bassett, Penados/Payne, and Edquiban/Patience all cruised to their respective doubles wins. Edquiban secured the first singles win for the Cardinals before Kayla McSweeney secured the win for North Central. Penados, Bassett, Payne, and Patience each won their matches on the way to the Cardinals' fifth 9-0 victory of the season.

North Central continues CCIW action on Wednesday as they host Elmhurst University at 3 PM.
