Sept. 5, 2022 - The North Central College men's soccer team extended their winning streak to three games as they took down the Carleton College Knights 1-0 inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium this afternoon.

The Cardinals (3-0-0) looked to keep their momentum going from their previous games this season and in just the second minute, Ty Konrad broke away from the defense and it looked like he was going to score but his shot went wide, eliminating the Cardinals scoring chance. The Knights (1-1-0) tried to keep up with the Cardinal offense and in the eighth minute Blake Jones had an opportunity to score but his shot was blocked by the Cardinal defense. Both offenses were at a standstill and in the 30th minute, the Knights had a scoring chance as Briggs Priem slipped away from his defender but his shot was handled by Sid Marquardt. The Cardinal offense could not gain any momentum and both teams would head into the break tied at zero.

North Central was looking to come out strong in the second half and break the tie and in the 53rd minute, Matteo Innocenti slipped around his defender and put his shot in the top right corner but goalkeeper Daniel Linder made an outstanding save to shut down the Cardinals offense. After a foul on the Knights, Sam Abreu lined up for a free kick and found Johnny Kraemer on the back side of the net where he put it past Linder to give the Cardinals a one goal lead. The Cardinal defense held strong the rest of the second half, only allowing one more shot on net to secure the 1-0 win.

The Cardinals out shot the Knights 15-7 while controlling possession for a majority of the game. Marquardt tallied three saves as he improved to 3-0-0 while picking up his second shutout of the season. Linder tallied four saves as he fell to 0-1-0 on the season.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Mequon, Wis. to take on the Concordia University-Wisconsin (CUW) Falcons at 4 pm inside Fitting Field.
