MEQUON, Wis. (Sept. 7, 2022) - Taking a trip up north to Mequon, Wis. to take on Concordia University-Wisconsin (CUW), the North Central College men's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie against the Falcons this afternoon.

The Cardinals (3-0-1) came out of the opening whistle firing as Sam Abreu had an opportunity in the fifth minute but his shot went wide, cutting down the Cardinal scoring chance. In the 16th minute, Humberto Jaimes found an opening and put a shot in the bottom right corner of the net but it was swallowed up by the Falcons goalkeeper, Jermey Munoz. The Falcons (2-0-1) offense stalled until the 17th minte when Nick Hummel sent a shot on net but his shot was handled by Sid Marquardt. The Falcons saw themselves with another opportunity in the first half as Ivan Cuellar was able to slip around the Cardinal defense and put a shot on net but Marquardt made an easy save to keep the game tied at zero. Both offenses could not get much going and both teams would head into the break tied at zero.

In the second half, the Cardinals came out just like the first half as Matteo Innocenti had an opportunity to score but his shot was managed by Munoz. Just two minutes later, Innocenti had another scoring chance as he sent a shot on the cage that got past Munoz but hit the crossbar and went out of play. Both defenses held firm, shutting down all offensive chances until the 70th minute when Jack Fairwood scored off an assist from Davis Nelson to give the Cardinals a one goal lead. The Falcons were not going out without a fight and in the 78th minute, Cuellar put one past Marquardt off an assist from Hummel to tie the game up once again. In the 89th minute, Ty Konrad had an opportunity to give the Cardinals the lead as he sent a strike to the bottom right corner but Munoz made another great save to keep the game tied at one.

Despite a 1-1 tie, the Cardinals outshot the Falcons 17-9 but both offenses had four shots on net. Marquardt tallied three saves as his record stands at 3-0-1, Munoz tallied three saves as well in the contest.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to take on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fighting Engineers. The action is to start at 3:30 pm inside Rose-Hulman Soccer Field.
