Women’s Soccer Ends in Stalemate With Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Sept. 7, 2022) - Despite outshooting their opponents 15-5, the North Central College women's soccer team drew a 0-0 tie against the Dominican University Stars on Wednesday, moving to a 2-0-1 record.

With offensive opportunities being few and far between, the Cardinals took only four shots total in the first half. Kily Egan opened with a scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute, launching it to the top of the goal but not quite out of reach by the Stars goalie. 

Kaitlyn Cannon took a shot in the 25th minute to the bottom right corner but was saved again by Dominican goalkeeper, Ashley Ishman. The Cardinals totaled four shots to the Stars two in the first half of play before turning it up in the second half.

The North Central defense held the Stars to only three shots in the second half while the Cardinals totalled 11, seven being shots on goal. Elle Sutter led the team with four shots. Morgan Verbeten had the second highest with three shots, all on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Boyd put in 90 minutes in the box and saw only five shots and recorded one save. 

The Cardinals host their first annual North Central Tournament Sept. 9-10 at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The tournament will consist of four games total with the Cardinals playing game one at 11:00 a.m. on Friday against Linfield University.
