CCIW Release
Jan. 18, 2023 - After an exceptional showing at the Cardinal Opener on Saturday, the North Central College women's track and field team swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athletes of the Week awards as
Alexandra Draves and
Lindsey Novak were both recognized this week.
The Cardinals had three event winners in their second-place finish at the Cardinal Opener on Saturday the first of the day coming from Draves in the weight throw. Draves was the first place finisher in the event by nearly seven feet as she posted a season's best of 57-feet even (17.37 meters). The returning All-American in the event leads the conference by over a foot and ranks fourth nationally. Draves also scored points in the shot put on Saturday (10.40m).
Novak ran away with the event win in the 400-meter dash after lowering her indoor career best to 58.16 seconds, nearly three seconds faster than the next competitor. Novak currently owns the top mark on the CCIW performance list and ranks seventh in the nation. Her time also places her seventh in the Cardinals' program history.
Novak shares this week's Track Student-Athlete of the Week award with Elmhurst University's Ava David who clocked a 58.33 second 400-meter dash time to finish fourth at the University of Massachusetts Flagship Indoor Invitational on Sunday.
North Central will be back at the Al B. Carius Track on Friday, Jan. 20 as they host the Snow Day Invitational. Field events are set to start at 4 p.m.
