Jan. 25, 2023 - For the second-straight week, North Central College women's track and field stand-outs,
Lindsey Novak and
Alexandra Draves have swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athletes of the Week with their record-setting performances at the Snow Day Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinals also came in at No. 18 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings poll.
Novak earns her second-consecutive CCIW weekly honor after breaking her own program record in the 200-meter dash at Friday's Snow Day Invite. Novak's time of 25.37 is the fastest time in the CCIW, and ranks fifth across all Division III competitors. She also ran a leg of North Central's winning 4-by-400-meter relay team on Friday. Novak shares the CCIW Track honor with Elmhurst University's Ava David who clocked a 25.45 at the I-55 Invitational on Saturday.
Draves claimed her second event-win in the 20-pound weight throw this season at Friday's meet, and was named the Field Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week. Her 17.92-meter toss broke her own varsity record in the event and is the furthest toss across the CCIW by nearly three feet, and ranks third in the nation.
The USTFCCCA announced its national rankings on Tuesday where North Central came in at No. 18 to start off the indoor season. Washington (Mo.) heads the national rankings with UW-La Crosse, Johns Hopkins, Loras and the University of Chicago rounding out the national top-five. North Central is the highest ranking CCIW institution with Elmhurst coming in at No. 24.
North Central ranks fifth in the USTFCCCA Midwest region as Washington (Mo.), Loras and Chicago claimed the top three spots, respectively, followed by Wartburg and North Central to complete the top-five rankings.
The Cardinals head to the Gately Indoor Track and Field in Chicago for the Aurora Grand Prix on Friday, Jan. 25 and to Whitewater, Wis. for the Warhawk Classic Combined Event.
