Oct. 11, 2023 – The North Central College women's soccer team battled the elements at home, in route to their fourth conference win against North Park University, cruising past 3-0.
North Central (12-2, 4-0 CCIW) began the game slow as the rain began to creep in not connecting with the net until the 36
th minute, when
Jordan Lange set up
Madison DeVriendt to score the only goal of the first half.
The Cardinals continued to keep the pressure on the North Park (1-6-5, 0-2-2 CCIW) defense but, only got one scoring opportunity by DeVriendt that was just saved by North Park's goalkeeper Campbelle Hunt.
After halftime, the Cardinals stormed down field as
Kaitlyn Cannon found
Jordan Lange in stride to light up the scoreboard, 2-0.
The field was beginning to become more and more slick as mother nature continued to log minutes on both ends of the field.
As the Cardinals offense continued to battle the elements,
Elle Sutter added her name to the scoreboard in the 81
st minute, firing off a shot past a diving Hunt with help from Cannon.
With the score firmly out of reach from North Park at 3-0, the elements halted offensive efforts only allowing one more shot from
Sarah Andrey.
In total Viking's goalkeeper Hunt fended off seven scoring attempts while their offense only took two shots.
On the opposite end the Cardinal's
Jordan Boyd fended off two attempts obtaining her fourth shutout of the season, while the offense put up nineteen shots ten of which being on target.
The No. 23 North Central College continues to maintain their first-place position in goals, assists, and points in all of division three soccer.
The Cardinals begin their three-game road trip Saturday, Oct. 14
th against CCIW rival Carroll University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha Wisconsin.
