WAUKESHA, WI. (Oct. 14, 2023) – The No. 23 North Central College women's soccer team traveled to shut down the Carroll University Pioneers at Schneider Stadium 2-0, breaking the program record for wins (13) and shutouts (9) in a single season.
North Central (13-2, 6-0 CCIW) eased into the match with their first shot of the game coming just thirty-eight seconds in from
Sarah Andrey.
Carroll University (8-6-2, 3-2-2 CCIW) responded with a shot on goal just three minutes later that
Jordan Boyd scooped up.
It wasn't until a series of corner kicks to set up
Elle Sutter's first goal of the game with assistance from Andrey.
The rest of the half showed a dominant presence from the Cardinals offense, forcing three saves out of Pioneer's goalkeeper Caitlin Fitzsimons.
Beginning the second half, Carroll University tried to flip the script with a shot from Brielle Ingalsbee that Boyd smothered up, marking their last scoring attempt of the game.
The Cardinals fired off another three shots on goal that were just saved by Fitzsimons within the first fifteen minutes of the half.
Both the Pioneers and Cardinals battled over possession for the next twenty-six minutes of play until, an unassisted
Elle Sutter ripped a goal past a diving Fitzsimons to seal the score to 2-0.
With only four minutes left in regulation, North Central prevented Carroll from taking another shot.
In total, the Cardinals took fifteen shots with eight being on target forcing six saves out of Fitzsimons. While Boyd saved two scoring attempts she notched the teams ninth shutout win of the season and her fifth of the year.
The No. 23 North Central College women's soccer team continues their historic season at Millikin University. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on Oct. 18
th at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
