BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Oct. 21, 2023) – The North Central College women's soccer team fired past Illinois Wesleyan University 6-0 on the road to seal the program's first ever, College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season champion title.
North Central (14-2-0, 7-0-0 CCIW) got the offense rolling early taking five shots until the 14
th minute,
Kaitlyn Cannon put up her eleventh assist of the season for
Jordan Lange to force the score 1-0.
Illinois Wesleyan (3-12-2, 2-5-1 CCIW) did not have much time to recover when two minutes later,
Elle Sutter connected with Lange for her second goal of the game.
The Cardinals kept up their unrelenting offense with another goal four minutes later from Lange to mark her 12
th freshman goal, putting her two shy of Nicole Walsh's 1994 record.
With the score firmly put out of reach by Lange 3-0, North Central did not ease up as sixty seconds later Nelson Brooke setup Sutter for her 22
nd goal of the year.
A costly penalty by the Titans set up
Katie Huey to fire a goal out of reach of goalkeeper Adriana Ruffolo, to light up the score 5-0 with twenty minutes left in the half.
North Central continued to hammer the Illinois Wesleyan defense forcing two saves out of Ruffolo until just five seconds left in the half when, Maddison DeVriendt found
Chandlar Lay to narrowly seal the score 6-0.
In the second half both teams fought for possession as North Central forced another four saves out of Ruffolo.
At the 79
th minute Sophie Lampert put up the Titans first and only shot on goal being saved by
Jordan Boyd.
In total North Central fired twelve shots on goal against Ruffolo sealing the game in the first half while, Boyd secured her fifteenth career shutout breaking Elise Manzie's 2009 record of 14.
The North Central College women's soccer team holds the most assists, points, and goals nationally, while on their programs longest win streak and look to become the first CCIW team to shutout all conference opponents.
The CCIW regular-season champions complete their season against Augustana College at home Oct. 25
th. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
