Oct. 7, 2023 – The North Central College women's soccer team faced their third CCIW opponent of the year at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, breaking their program's single season record for goals while shutting out Carthage College 6-0 Saturday morning.

North Central (11-2, 3-0 CCIW) struggled to find a rhythm early but, found plenty of opportunity to put pressure on Carthage's Ainsley Stallworth at goal, forcing her to make nine saves in the first thirty minutes of play.

The tenth attempt on goal, with a setup from Brooke Nelson gave Yazmin Martinez the first goal of the match and her fifth of the season.

After the Cardinals offense did not allow the Firebirds to take a single shot on offense as just seven minutes later, Holly Helmers connected with Jordan Lange to light up the scoreboard 2-0.

Carthage College (2-4-5, 0-1-3 CCIW) made a costly mistake in the 44th minute, giving North Central their first penalty kick opportunity. Katie Huey took the chance and found room beside a diving Stallworth to make the score 3-0 entering halftime.

The Cardinals had a fast start to the second half, capitalizing on a diminished Carthage defense just 180 seconds in, as another costly error gave Sarah Andrey a penalty kick goal notching her 15th goal of the year.

North Central continued to battle the Firebird defense narrowly missing the goal four times until the 71st minute, Lange fired off her second goal of the game and eighth of the season.

With the Cardinals firmly on top, Carthage could not seal up the defense as Erin Jaskierski rocked the net with an assist from Madison DeVriendt, icing the score at 6-0.

The Firebirds could not warm up from the flash freezing by the Cardinals offense as they finished the game with just three shots, marking Jordan Boyd's third shutout of the season.

In total, Carthage fended off fifteen goal attempts between Stallworth and Sara Schinker while the Cardinals locked up Carthage allowing only three shots.

The match marked North Central College women's soccer's 59th team goal of the season, shattering the fourteen-year long record of 52.

North Central continues their multi-record-breaking season Wednesday October 11th against North Park University. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
