Waverly, Iowa (Nov 12, 2023) - The North Central College men's cross-country team competed in the NCAA Midwest Division III Regionals. The Cardinals won their 33rd regional in program history and have qualified for the national championship.
The Cardinals stayed remarkably close together and ran as a pack pushing each other to the finish line in the 8,000-meter race.
The first Cardinal to cross the line was Braden Nicholson. He finished second overall in the regional running a time of 24 minutes and 23 seconds.
Following behind to finish third overall was Max Svienty running 24:27. Drew Guimond finished fifth overall in the meet, running a time of 24:29, James McGlashon finished 17th overall with a time of 24:47, and BJ Sorg finished 22nd overall and ran a time of 24:57 seconds. The Cardinals had an average running time of 24:37.
Behind the Cardinals winning point total of 49 points are Wartburg College in second with 55 points, Washington University in St. Louis in third with 99 points, Central College in fourth with 127 points, and Loras College in fifth with 135 points.
With the Cardinals winning regionals they automatically qualify for nationals, making it the 50th time they have qualified for the national championship.
The NCAA Division III Championship takes place Saturday Nov. 18.
