Men’s Tennis Cruises To Pair of 9-0 Victories

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 18, 2023) - Claiming two 9-0 wins at home, the North Central College men's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the year with wins over Coe College and the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday.

Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles with Colten Way and Javier Suarez Balsera taking an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Daniel Estanislao and Matthew Sengphommachanh won 8-2 at No. 3 as the Cardinals needed just two wins to clinch the victory in singles play against Coe.

Sengphommachanh won the first singles match of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Suarez Balsera clinched the win at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Vilarroig Martinez, Estanislao, Gonzalez Fernandez, and Way all won in two sets as well to give North Central a 9-0 win.

Against MSOE, the Cardinals swept doubles action again as Vilarroig Martinez/Gonzalez Fernandez, Suarez Balsera/Way, and Matt Crossland/Brayden Kopp secured doubles victories. Again winning the first singles match, Sengphommachanh won at No. 3 before Crossland locked up the win for the Cardinals. Vilarroig Martinez, Suarez Balsera, Kopp, and Daniel Urraca Mozos all captured two set victories on the day as well.

North Central welcomes No. 34 the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to town on Saturday. The Cardinals and Warhawks battle it out at Naperville Tennis Club at 5 p.m.
