NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 25, 2023) - Facing their second ranked team this month, the North Central College men's tennis team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 7-2 before claiming a 9-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago on Saturday night inside Naperville Tennis Club.

Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez took the No. 15th doubles team in the nation to the brink, but ultimately fell 8-6. After Javier Suarez Balsera and Colten Way lost 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, Daniel Estanislao and Matthew Sengphommachanh took home an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. Gonzalez Fernandez battled for a comeback 6-7 (3), 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 5 singles to claim the lone singles win for the Cardinals.

North Central did not let up a point in doubles play against the Cougars. Brayden Kopp joined Suarez Balsera in the No. 1 spot while Daniel Urraca Mozos teamed up with Gonzalez Fernandez at No. 2 and Douglas Blomquist and Matt Crossland paired up at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep.

Kopp cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 while Crossland rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 position. Urraca Mozos, Dieter Gonzales, Blomquist, and Brian Gambuzza all won 6-0, 6-0 to secure the 9-0 victory for North Central.

The Cardinals welcome Hope College to Naperville on Friday evening for North Central's fifth straight home match.
