GEORGETOWN, TEXAS (Mar. 14, 2023) - Taking a trip south to Georgetown, Texas for spring break, the North Central College women's lacrosse team fell to Sewanee 18-6 on Tuesday afternoon inside Varsity Field at Southwestern University.
The Cardinals (2-1) came into the contest with a 2-0 record after defeating CUW in overtime on Saturday and they looked to keep their momentum going. However, Sewanee had other plans and Brooke Sigmon and Emma Burns tallied goals just 30 seconds apart to give them a two goal lead early in the contest. Tanya Czosek got the Cardinals on the board 17 seconds later but they would see the lead extend to two once again after another Burns goal. Odessa Wood found the back of the net with 9:20 remaining but the Tigers would go on an eight goal run into the second quarter to give them an 11-2 advantage. Lucy Culig ended the Tigers run and she found the back of the net with 6:13 left in the half but the Tigers would put two more past the Cardinals to give them a 13-3 lead heading into halftime.
Czosek got the Cardinals offense rolling in the fourth quarter as she scored her second goal of the contest to bring the score to 13-4 but Alexa Berg of Sewanee scored three straight goals of her own to give the Tigers a 16-5 advantage. Czosek scored her third and final goal of the game before Abbey Triebe finished off an Odessa Wood pass to cut the deficit to ten. Sewanee would close out the game with two goals of their own to defeat the Cardinals 18-6.
