Offensive Struggles Haunt Cardinals in 18-4 Loss

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS (Mar. 15, 2023) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team fell in the second-straight game as they lost 18-4 to the Mount Holyoke College Lyons on Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Field. 

The Lyons (2-2) found themselves with an early two goal lead as Emi Bisson scored two unassisted goals just two minutes apart. The Cardinals (2-2) cut the deficit to one as Abby MacKenzie finished off Lucy Culig pass to bring the score to 2-1. The Lyons finished the first quarter with a two goal run to extend their lead to 4-1. The Lyons offense kept clicking, finding the back of the net for the first goal of the second quarter to give them a four goal lead. Odessa Wood found Abbey Triebe for the Cardinals second goal of the game, cutting the deficit to three. The Lyons would extend their lead to 10-2 as they went on a five goal stretch but with 23 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Triebe would finish off a Tanya Czosek pass to cut the deficit to seven heading into halftime. 

The Lyons dominated the third quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to give them a 15-3 advantage heading into the final quarter of the play. After Ella Phillips gave the Lyons a 13 goal lead, Julia Clarke scored the Cardinals final goal of the game to cut the lead to 12. Mount Holyoke would finish the game with two more goals to secure an 18-4 win over the Cardinals. 

Triebe led the Cardinals with two goals while Clarke and MacKenzie each scored one goal. Ellie Gosselin led the Cardinals with three caused turnovers while Abby Tointon, Reese McMullen and Clarke each caused one turnover. Belle LaRocco fell to 2-2 on the season as she tallied eight saves in the contest. 

The Cardinals finish their spring break trip with a matchup with the Pirates of Southwestern University on Friday, March 17. The opening draw is set for 12 pm at Varsity Field.
