NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 22, 2023) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team saw their three game losing streak disappear Wednesday night inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium as Abbey Triebe scored six goals including the double overtime winner to knock off Marian University 11-10.

In their first ever meeting, the Cardinals (3-3) and Sabres (4-4) battled an inconsistent rain throughout the whole game. Lucy Culig kicked off the scoring by finishing off an Abby MacKenzie pass just one minute into the contest to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead. However, the Sabres scored two quick goals just 38 seconds within each other to give them a 2-1 advantage. Culig found Abbey Triebe with 8:38 left in the first to tie the game at two before finding the back of the net for the second time to give the Cardinals 3-2 lead. The Sabres ended the first quarter with two goals of their own to reclaim the lead.

The Sabres extended their lead to two in the second quarter but Tanya Czosek would cut the lead to one as she found the back of the net with 6:30 remaining in the half. Triebe gave the Cardinals their third lead of the night as she scored two goals 18 seconds apart to give them a 6-5 advantage. Marian would tie the game up with 1:19 remaining as Dallas Kreisa snuck one past goalkeeper Bella LaRocco but Raygn Jordan found Triebe with one second remaining to give the Cardinals a 7-6 lead heading into halftime.

Triebe found the back of the net for the fifth time of the night with 12:14 left in the third quarter after finishing off a Culig pass to put the Cardinals up two goals. The Sabres would score the final goal of the third quarter to cut the lead to one but would find the back of the netwith 12:58 left in the final quarter of play to tie the game at eight. Jordan found Culig with 9:41 left to give the Cardinals another lead but the Sabres responded right away to tie the game up for seventh time. MacKenzie gave the Cardinals a 10-9 advantage with 6:41 and it seemed to be the game winner but Dallas Kreisa snuck past the Cardinal defense and tied the game up with 25 seconds remaining.

The first overtime was very stagnant, only seeing two shots in the two three minute periods. In the second overtime, the Sabres had an opportunity to win the game by LaRocco made two fantastic saves to force another three minutes of play. With 1:47 left to play in the second overtime, MacKenzie found Triebe all alone in front of the net for her sixth and final goal of the night to give the Cardinals an 11-10 win over the Sabres.

Triebe led all scorers with six goals while Culig found the back of the net three times and MacKenzie and Czosek each had one goal. MacKenzie dished out a team-high three assists while Culig and Jordan each had two assists in the win.
Reese McMullen led the defense with four caused turnovers while scooping up six ground balls. Julia Clarke scooped up seven ground balls while causing three turnovers. LaRocco tallied 11 saves in the contest as her record improved to 3-3 on the season.
