Cardinals Fall in Sunday Tilt at Albion

ALBION, MICH. (Mar. 26, 2023) - Playing in their second game this weekend in Michigan, the North Central College women's lacrosse team found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they lost to Albion College 23-11 on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

The Britons (3-5) found themselves with an early two goal lead as she scored back-to-back goals in just eight seconds of play. Tanya Czosek cut the deficit to one as she buried her first goal of the game with 12:15 remaining. After the Britons extended their lead to 4-1 with two straight goals, Czosek found the back of the net for the second time of the day with 5:21 remaining in the first quarter. The Britons and Cardinals each scored one goal one  after another before Albion scored two unanswered to give them a 7-3 advantage heading into the second quarter. 

Albion found the back of the net 34 seconds into the second quarter, extending their lead to  five but Abby MacKenzie found Odessa Wood to put the Cardinals within four. Both teams  went back and forth for the remainder of the half and the Britons went into the break with an 11-7 lead. 

The third quarter was dominated by the Britons as they scored seven unanswered goals to give them a 17-7 advantage. After a Britton penalty, MacKenzie finished off a Julia Clarke pass to cut the deficit to nine. The Britons extended their lead back to ten but Czosek scored an unassisted goal with 1:24 remaining in the third to bring the score to 18-9. Albion would get their ten goal lead back as Olivia Dameron scored with seven seconds to go to give them a 19-9  advantage. 

Addie Pastor of Albion found the back of the net three times in the Britons four goal stretch  to start the fourth quarter to give them a 23-9  advantage. Raygn Jordan and MacKenzie found the back of the net late in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as they fell 23-11. 

Addie Pastor of Albion led all scorers with 11 goals while Czosek led the Cardinals with five goals. MacKenzie and Clarke each dished out an assist, a team-high. Clarke forced three turnovers while scooping up three ground balls. Bella LaRocco fell to 3-5 on the season as she tallied six saves. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, March 29 as they take on the Spartans of Aurora University at 7 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
