NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 4, 2023) - Taking on DePauw University for the first time in program history, the North Cetnral College women's tennis team used a stong singles performance to defeat the Tigers, 7-2 on Saturday afternoon inside Naperville Tennis Club.

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett clawed their way to an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles while the Tigers grabbed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. 

Needing at least four wins in singles play to claim a victory over DePauw, Kensington Payne cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot. The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead when Mikayla Edquiban beat Franny Werner 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Nina Patience rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Clinching the win for North Central was Penados who mounted a three-set comeback as she won 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Basset earned a 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 2 while Kayla McSweeney finished off the sweep with a 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 6.

Next up for the Cardinals is their spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. They take on Transylvania University on Sunday, March 12th at 12 PM (ET).
