LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Apr. 16, 2023) - Playing in their final match of the regular season, the North Central College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday afternoon inside Lake Geneva Tennis Club.

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett claimed the lone Cardinals win in doubles play with an 8-1 win over Autumn Bruno and Cassandra Lee, the No. 7 ranked doubles team in the Central Region. The Warhawks won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to hold a 2-1 advantage heading to singles play.

Penados, the No. 11 ranked singles player in the Central Region knocked off No 8 Bruno for the second straight match with a 6-2, 7(10)-6(8) win at No. 1 singles. No. 19 Natalie Bassett beat the other ranked singles player in the region for UWW, No. 18 Gianna Nikoleit 6-1, 6-3. The Warhawks won No. 3-6 in straight sets to earn a 6-3 victory.

The Cardinals host this year's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament, beginning on Thursday. They face Elmhurst University at 8 a.m. at Nike Park in Naperville.
