Apr.21, 2023Â - Undone by an early scoring rally in the first game and a late rush in the second, the North Central College softball team lost both ends of a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Senior Day double header Friday, 4-0 and 4-2.
The Cardinals (8-19, 4-10 CCIW) surrendered three runs in the first inning of the first game and trailed throughout, drawing four walks but not registering any hits. Pitcher
Sam Schilf came on in relief in the first inning and allowed just one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking none.
Schilf started the second contest as well and pitched five innings, striking out three and walking two while allowing three runs on seven hits. Schilf held a 2-1 lead when exiting the game early in the sixth, but left two runners on base who wound up scoring on catcher Madison Palasz' two-run double which gave the visitors a 3-2 advantage.Â
North Central scored its first run of the day in the fourth inning, as
Allison Lambert's single through the left side scored
Sarah Lynch. Schilf led off the fifth with a single and later scored on
Katie Del Re's base hit which gave the Cardinals their 2-1 advantage.
North Central travels to face Benedictine University Tuesday in a non-conference series at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine Sports Complex. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
