LISLE, Ill. (Apr. 25, 2023)Â - The North Central College softball team's annual encounter with its crosstown rival resulted in a pair of losses Tuesday, as the Cardinals lost, 3-2 and 8-0, to the Benedictine University Eagles at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine Sports Complex.
North Central (8-21) owned an early lead in the opener, scoring in each of the first two innings.
Katie Del Re led off the game with a double and later scored on a single by
Talia Torosian. In the second, Del Re delivered another double to drive home pinch runner
Danielle Lambert after
Sam Schilf led off the inning with a base hit.
The Cardinals led, 2-1, in the fifth inning when Benedictine (21-11) got a game-tying RBI triple from Ashley Fisher. Schilf, the starting pitcher, then departed the game after 4 1/3 innings. Relief pitcher
Lauren Bowmar got the final two outs, though the Eagles scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
The hosts scored five runs on six hits in the first inning of the nightcap and allowed the Cardinals to record only two hits.
The Cardinals travel to Lake Forest College Wednesday for a non-conference double header against the Foresters (17-12). Play at Mohr Field is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
